Family Guy Presents Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story
The hilariously irreverent and enormously popular animated series THE FAMILY GUY expands to a feature-length movie in order to explore the true origins of maniacal baby genius Stewie Griffin. Seth MacFarlane's family of losers and misfits, headed up by bumbling dad Peter, was deemed too controversial by FOX and ended after an all-too-brief run, only to return to the channel by popular demand. It all starts out with Stewie's near-death experience, after which, shaken and questioning his life, the baby goes on a drinking binge. He resurfaces only when he sees on TV a man who looks just like him, and it dawns on him that this is his real father. Stewie embarks upon a road trip, intending to get to the bottom of it all, while meanwhile Peter is fired from his job for being a bad parent. A must-see for fans and neophytes alike, the movie delivers what audiences have been wanting all along: more FAMILY GUY!

In the years since his novel DO ANDROIDS DREAM OF ELECTRIC SHEEP? was brought to the screen as BLADE RUNNER (1982), Philip K. Dick's paranoid, futuristic works have frequently made the same leap---sometimes as brainy puzzlers (OPEN YOUR EYES, A SCANNER DARKLY), but more often as star-powered action vehicles (TOTAL RECALL, PAYCHECK). NEXT (based very loosely on Dick's short story "The Golden Man") falls squarely in the latter category, with always-game Nicolas Cage as Cris Johnson, a man with the ability to see two minutes into the future. Afraid that all sorts of frightening demands will be made on him if the true scope of his ability becomes known, Johnson limits the use of his powers to a hokey, third-rate Vegas stage show and reading slot machines to gauge their payouts. Meanwhile, terrorists have imported a nuclear device into the U.S., with the intention of detonating it in a major metropolitan area, and F.B.I. agent Callie Ferris (Julianne Moore) has discovered that Cris's ability is no fake and th...

Little Shop of Horrors
King of the B's, director Roger Corman shot this crazy beat-era classic in a mere two days, but it packs plenty of inspired lunacy and clever bits in its 70-minute running time. Jonathan Haze stars as clumsy assistant florist Seymour, who saves his job in Mr. Mushnik's skid-row flower shop when he brings in a unique man-eating plant. The problem is, it's a very hungry plant; every night it opens its huge jaws and demands to be fed, forcing poor Seymour to take to the street in search of victims, lest he disappoint his boss and his adoring girlfriend, Audrey (Jackie Joseph). From a zingy script by Charles Griffith, this hilarious black comedy overflows with great ideas and characters: Corman regular Dick Miller plays a hipster who eats flowers, and a very young Jack Nicholson takes a memorable turn as a masochistic dental patient. DRAGNET-style detective Joe Fink (Wally Campo) narrates as he slowly begins to track the killer down. This oft-revived favorite still generates plenty of laughs and chills, dese...

Ghost and Mrs. Muir
Joseph L. Mankiewicz's bittersweet, sparkling romance between a young widow and a sea captain's ghost weaves a magical tale of immortal love. Determined to live her life the way she wants, newly widowed Lucy Muir (Gene Tierney) declines her straitlaced in-laws' demand that she live with them and moves with her daughter (a young Natalie Wood) to the seaside into a cottage haunted by the handsome, blustering Captain Gregg (Rex Harrison). A deal is struck between the two in the wee hours of the morning allowing Lucy to stay in the house and the captain to materialize only in the master bedroom. As they gradually get to know each other better, Lucy's spunk and stubbornness gains first the captain's grudging respect, then his heart. But when another man woos Lucy, both must face that her future lies with the living, not in the spirit world. A timeless romantic favorite, THE GHOST AND MRS. MUIR subtly traces the complex development of friendship and love, themes that director Mankiewicz excels with ...

300
Based on the graphic novel by Frank Miller and Lynn Varley, 300 takes over the screen like an invading horde. With all the gushing blood of a horror movie and the scope of a classic epic, the second film from Zack Snyder (who helmed the 2004 remake of DAWN OF THE DEAD) is an impressive visual spectacle. Gerard Butler (THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA) plays Leonidas, the king of ancient Sparta. The city is famous for its warrior philosophy, and Leonidas won't kneel to the demands of Persia's King Xerxes (LOST's Rodrigo Santoro). Instead, Leonidas leads his 300-strong army against Xerxes's army of millions. Meanwhile, his wife (Lena Headley, THE BROTHERS GRIMM) campaigns in Sparta for the city to send reinforcements as she butts heads with the treacherous Theron (Dominic West, THE WIRE). With its gore and scale, 300 marks director Snyder as a possible successor to Peter Jackson's throne. Jackson also got his start in horror with BAD TASTE and DEAD ALIVE, and the two men share a penchant for ambitious b...

Rumor of Angels
Peter O'Fallon's heartwarming drama tells the uplifting story of an unlikely friendship between an emotionally scarred young boy and a mournful older woman. Twelve-year-old James Neubauer (Trevor Morgan) has never fully healed from the traumatic loss of his mother in a car accident. His father (Ray Liotta) has chosen to pretend it never happened, throwing himself headlong into work and a new life with James' stepmother (Catherine McCormack). For these reasons, James harbors a deep resentment for his father. The only friend he has is his quirky Uncle Charlie (Ron Livingston), but even Charlie is unable to provide the consolation James needs. Salvation miraculously arrives in the form of Maddy Bennett (Vanessa Redgrave), a local recluse who is still healing from a great loss of her own. When James accidentally breaks Maddy's fence, she demands that he fix it himself. What is initially a defensive, stubborn battle of egos slowly changes into an extremely close relationship that crosses all boundaries and he...

Dazed and Confused
Richard Linklater's DAZED AND CONFUSED takes a hysterical, nostalgic cross-clique look at high school social development. On the last day of school in May 1976, students at a suburban Texas high school wait, lackadaisically, for classes to end. The restless almost-seniors--an eclectic group of stone-heads, fraternal jocks, and snobby sorority girls--can't wait to haze the incoming freshman, an annual event as harrowing for freshman boys as it is humiliating for girls. Amidst this teenage wasteland of drugs, partying, and rock and roll is football star Pink (Jason London), who saves scrawny pre-frosh Mitch (Wiley Wiggins) from being paddled to oblivion by upper-classmates. But Pink has his own battles: he's struggling over the head coach's demand that football players sign a pledge to abstain from sex and all psychoactive substances. When a wild end-of-the-year party is cancelled, the students end up congregating at a beer-blast in the back woods, organized by aging hang-about Wooderson (Matthew McConaugh...
